One-to-One Leaving Cert Sessions

Exam strategy and structured support

These one-to-one sessions prioritise exam performance, recall, and study structure, rather than simply reviewing course content.

Sessions help students approach Leaving Cert subjects strategically, apply what they know under exam conditions, and study more effectively and independently between sessions.

This approach works best for students who are willing to reflect on how they study and apply strategies independently between sessions.

What these sessions focus on

  • Exam technique and question approach
  • Building strong recall under exam conditions
  • Structuring study time effectively
  • Identifying what matters most for marks
  • Clarifying difficult concepts where needed

Self-sufficiency, not dependence

The emphasis is on helping students work more effectively outside of sessions by developing strong study habits, exam awareness, and self-sufficiency, rather than creating dependence on weekly lessons.

Initial three-session starter block

All new students begin with an initial three-session starter block. These sessions are used to establish effective study habits, exam awareness, and recall strategies, and to ensure the approach is a good fit.

Sessions are structured around how students study between lessons, not just what happens during the session. This approach is intentionally different from traditional grinds that focus primarily on repeated explanation. Students are expected to engage actively with the process, apply strategies between sessions, and take responsibility for how they study.

Because the focus is on learning methods rather than repeated explanation of content, the benefits typically extend beyond a single subject.

Subject support

Subject-specific support is currently available for:

  • Leaving Cert Biology
  • Leaving Cert Business
  • Leaving Cert Home Economics
  • Leaving Cert Geography
  • Leaving Cert Psychology

Higher Level and Ordinary Level support is available across all subjects listed, with sessions adapted to the student’s current level and exam goals.

General exam strategy and study skills support is available across subjects. If you are enquiring about a different subject, please get in touch to discuss suitability.

Who these sessions are for

These sessions are best suited to:

  • Students who want clearer structure and direction in their study
  • Students who understand material but struggle to perform consistently in exams
  • Students who feel overwhelmed or inefficient in how they prepare
  • Parents looking for a strategic, evidence-based approach, with clear structure and realistic expectations around progress

Sessions work best for students who are willing to engage with structured preparation, rather than relying solely on short-term cramming.

Timing and approach

Exam strategy and recall techniques are most effective when introduced early in the Leaving Cert cycle. However, they can also be highly valuable when applied alongside ongoing course revision, helping students make better use of the work they are already doing.

This approach is informed by evidence-based learning and memory principles, with a focus on helping students understand how to learn, not just what to learn.

Relationship to RetainLearning

These one-to-one sessions are offered alongside the development of the RetainLearning platform. The platform will build on the same principles used in sessions, providing structured tools to support long-term learning, recall, and exam performance over the full Leaving Cert cycle.
